An agreement to build the so-called Poland-Lithuania Gas Interconnection pipeline was signed on 19th Oct 2015 by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland.
The interconnector between Poland and Lithuania aimed at diversifying the Baltics’energy supplies, lessening dependence on Russia, is said to end the long lasting isolation of the region.
It is the first gas interconnector between the Eastern Baltic Sea region and the Continental Europe.
The agreement was signed by representatives of three countries in the presence of Jean-Claude Juncker (President of the European Commission), Ewa Kopacz (PM of Poland), Dalia Grybauskaite (President of Lithuania), Laimdota Straujuma (PM of Latvia) and, Taavi Roivas (PM of Estonia) at the EU headquarters.
